Introduction
This purpose of this page is to outline part of my experience in Visual Analytics. My background is mainly centered on developing systems* which touch on the following types of concerns:
- The application of information processing models such as OODA Loops, Sense Making and DIKW (Insights, Information, Data) abstraction layers.
- Models relating to the coordination of information visualization, content analytics and visual search.
- Long range information encoding systems.
- Clear models delineating ML results as “answers” vs “hints” vs “suggestions.
- Understanding users needs related to top down vs bottom up exploration and decision making.
- Models relating to information exploration, enrichment and actions.
*In terms of specific visualization charts/graphs my background is limited to Line, Bar, Scatter, Pie, Force Diagram, Hive Diagram, Time Series, Small Multiples, Heat Maps, Sankey and other common types . (IE – no specific background in graphs like Radar, Candlestick etc.)
Domain Tools Security Analysis Information Systems
The DomainTools security products “ecosystem” grew over time. As the system grew the encoding of object attributes expanded in such a way that it created potential semantic conflicts for end users. Part of the work at DomainTools centered on developing a longer term and clearly articulated assignment of encoding options set against object attribute requirements.
DT Attribute Encoding Decision Tree
The objective of the decision tree was to assign the correct and non conflicting encoding technique to object attributes. It was meant to correlate effective quantitative, ordinal and nominal measures with graphical and interaction approaches.
DT PhishEye Product
PhishEye is a PhishingDetection application which requires rapid identification of potential threats. This is a page that works at the Insight and Information levels encoding for Risk Scores, State Tags and Trend
DT Iris
Iris is a comprehensive Threat Investigation Platform. This is an example of the integration of a Force Diagram as part of overall information display.
Socrata Public Sector Information Systems _ Data Visualizations
The work at Socrata focused on both Data Ingestion and Public Information Exploration.
Socrata Public Information Visual System
This is an example of the use the incorporation of a Bar Chart at the information level and a Pie at the Insight level. Users are able to adjust the view of the data from Snapshot, Pie and Timeline.
Socrata Data Ingestion
This is a Ingestion Workflow page. Socrata developed these workflows for non professionals wishing to incorporate data from their city county or region. The data is supported by a strong on-board meta data and learning system.
Microsoft IT Pro and Developer Information Systems
Following is work from my time at Microsoft as UX Lead and V-Team (IC) Leader.
