XBOX Developer Tools

UX Architect

Project

XBOX is  Microsoft’s Gaming technology.
In order for both Corporate and Indie developers to work with Microsoft, they must be able to engage with a wide variety of technical tools including MSFT SDKs, specialized game development tools in the Xbox platform, and tools found in Visual Studio.   The lack of coherence in the array of tooling represented friction in the development process and impacted adoption of the platform.

The objectives of this project included;

  • The addition of GUI tools for functionality that currently had been CLI
  • Rationalization between tools found in Visual Studio and other MSFT with tools in the primary Xbox stack
  • Improvements in the primary Xbox GPU pipeline tool

Impact

Worked across the organization and with key customers to deliver the following:

  • Conducted benchmark analysis, problem definition, prototyping, user testing, and design iteration, and visual design
  • Conducted in-depth User Research Tier1 and Indie Developers
  • Designed framework for an integrated game developer tool suite incorporating PIX, Xbox Console manager and other related GPU, CPU, Kinnect and Network management tools
  • Developed UX improvements in GPU and CPU pipeline performance tools
